Interspecific hybridization and plant breeding: From historical retrospective through work of Mendel to current crops

چکیده
There is a relatively long history of plant hybridization traced back to ancient time, both from theoretical as well practical perspectives. At first considered an evolutionary dead-end, it was soon recognized have important role in speciation. Beside his work on pea, G.J. Mendel also conducted interspecific using several species including Hieracium. Current knowledge shows that the frequent occurrence wide nature often connected with polyploidy. Interspecific has played domestication and numerous crops are allopolyploids, sometimes complex hybrid origin. This been used breeding, extending even intergeneric crosses which benefit heterosis, transgressive segregation introgression phenomenon. review aims provide historical retrospective summarize current usage crop breeding.

Interspecific and intergeneric hybridization and chromosomal engineering of Brassicaceae crops
In Brassicaceae crop breeding programs, wild relatives have been evaluated as genetic resources to develop new cultivars with biotic and abiotic stress resistance. This has become necessary because of the diversification of ecotypes of diseases and pests, changing food preferences, advances in production technology, the use of new approaches such as in vitro breeding programs, and the need for ...
متن کاملProduction of genetically male tilapia through interspecific hybridization between Oreochromis niloticus and O. aureus
This study was conducted to produce a high percentage of genetically male tilapia through interspecific hybridization between Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus and Blue tilapia, O. aureus and evaluate sex ratio, productive performance and heterosis of the progeny produced. The results revealed that sex ratios of the progenies of (♀ O. aureus x ♂ O. niloticus) and (♀ O. niloticus x ♂ O. aureus...

Plant regeneration and somatic embryogenesis through interspecific hybridization among different Carica species were studied for the development of a papaya ringspot virus-resistant variety. The maximum fruit sets were recorded from the cross of the native variety C. papaya cv. Shahi with the wild species C. cauliflora. The highest hybrid embryos were recorded at 90 days after pollination and t...
